What is the ocarina that i am scanning supposed to be? That is a great question considering that both the artifacts that i have a just the head of the figurine.i at first thought that the whistle might be something cool like a god of something or a king. I thought this because the head the figurine has this giant head dress on and when I think Mayan head dress i go straight to someone or something that is super important. Come to find out that isn't it at all, but it is still something that is pretty cool. After doing some research i believe that my figurine whistle is an ancient mayan warrior. the reason that i believe he is a warrior is because of his head dress. Apparently these head dresses were worn during ceremonies where the warrior participated in this sport where they would try and hit a ball though a hole that was mounted on the wall. sounds a lot like basketball right? well there are a few big differences between this sport and basket ball. For one the ring was mounted on a wall vertically so that the hole was on the sides of it, not on top and bottom. Then there is the fact that the ball wasn't nearly as soft as a basketball. it was sometimes a hard rubber ball because rubber was so plentiful in the area that the mayans controlled, but other times it was the severed head of a defeated enemy. The game was really gruesome and was used to train the warriors. The last difference is that you could only score goals with you feet. thats right this sport required you to use your feet to kick the severed head of you enemy into a small loop that was mounted high up on a wall. Needless to say the mayans were pretty metal. One thing that strongly pointed me in the direction of thinking that the figurine that i have is a warrior was that a fellow classmate who has a very similar ocarina told me that it was. I did some of my own research and came to the sam conclusion, but I definitely had the idea in my head so i may have used a little confirmation bias in my research, so i will have to continue to look just to make sure that its not something like a ruler because they also have head dresses, but theirs look pretty different. then we have the question of whether of not my figurine whistle is a mold or if it was hand carved. Seeing as i had two, one of which was a 3D print i am not 100 percent sure, but i definitely think that it is a mold because the two that i have a so similar but a definitely two different artifacts. then the is the fact that same has one that looks just like mine, so i think it is a safe bet that mine is a simple mold.
